The Voluntary Car Service is a Registered Charity (Number 1067842) based in Barton upon Humber, whose service arranges for volunteer drivers to provide transport for the elderly, fragile or anyone with a genuine transport need.
They are able to help with transport to and from hospitals, doctors, health related appointments, visiting and other social journeys from rural areas of North Lincolnshire.
There are set mileage rates to Scunthorpe and to most hospitals, otherwise the charge is currently 32 pence per mile from the driver’s home, subject to a minimum charge of £1.50. The driver will wait for up to one and a half hours, otherwise a separate return journey may have to be booked. 24 hours notice is required for any journey.
Wheel chair accessible minibuses also run, this costs 60 pence per mile subject to a £10.00 minimum charge. All the drivers are registered with the Voluntary Car Service and undertake recognised training under the MiDAS Scheme (Minibus drivers Awareness Scheme).
These prices were correct at February 23rd 2005. Please make sure you check current prices when booking these services as they are likely to increase if fuel prices go up.
The Voluntary Car Service could provide the transport solution for you and your neighbours by utilising the service offered together (thus reducing cost of fare).
All drivers give their time on a purely voluntary basis. The service is always looking for volunteer drivers. Perhaps you could help or pass the details of the scheme on to anyone you think may be interested.
